What does Colombia’s Rural Development Agency do?
The Rural Development Agency (ADR, by its Spanish acronym) is the entity responsible for promoting rural and agricultural development in Colombia from a territorial and inclusive approach, led by Cesar Pachón, agricultural engineer. ADR’s mission is to guarantee access to goods and services resulting from Agrarian Reform and Comprehensive Rural Development; to dignify peasant labor by providing incentives for short-circuit crop marketing through public procurement, access to international markets, participation in international trade fairs, and the building of strategic alliances. ADR supports farm producers in making their rural businesses a reality and strengthens their associations so that food can be purchased at fair prices, helping to close the gap between large and small producers.

Despite her young age, Salomé has participated in various fairs and industry events, showcasing her talent as a barista—especially with the V60 method—and the outstanding quality of her coffee. She even managed to auction a pound of coffee at the highest recorded price in the country. Today, Salomé dreams of creating a chain of cafés to open up opportunities for other rural child entrepreneurs.
